Refont review: what we found in testing

Author: nopetnoget editors ·

Summary

The project is at the MVP stage, and founders need to find their "product" and focus on generation quality that will allow using the solution for commercial purposes. I recommend commissioning targeted audits from niche experts to identify the "core" product. Limit research to 1-3 markets. Given that the project has no localization and provides an English-language interface, seek experts in the English-speaking environment.

Three focus questions

Focus 1

How clear is the onboarding on the project?

Registration and authorization are built on Google Auth, which is a standard mechanism and causes no issues. This is the only authorization option in the project, and it is necessary for testing the service's capabilities. This mechanism is sufficient for familiarizing yourself with the service. No other authorization options are offered.

Focus 2

Is pricing predictable and is it clear how much generation will cost?

The project uses a system of internal tokens, and before each generation, the service displays the number of tokens required to create an image. After registration, there are enough tokens to test several system capabilities. This allows you to determine how well the service suits you. The system provided me with 18 tokens upon registration for testing. There is also a separate page and simple plan logic: $4.99 and $9.99, which provide 100 or 300 tokens. The presence of such plans and such mechanics indicates that the project is still in the process of finding its paying users.

Focus 3

Is there a noticeable difference between this generator and generation using popular AI models?

No, it wasn't enough. I get the impression that under the hood there's a standard set of prompts and you can achieve the same result yourself using NanoBanano or Claude models. If that's not the case, I would recommend the founders provide information about the "under the hood" system right on the first screen of the service. Alternatively, with a direct comparison of what popular native models can do and why the service provides more predictable and higher quality results.

Project check

Rate onboarding: how easy is it to figure out the product in the first minutes?

Easy, there are few notes here, perhaps it makes sense to provide additional registration options, but the project is at such a stage that this seems premature.

Does the project fit the audience the founders claim?

I'd like to see a more niche product with a clear focus on the target audience. Currently, the service offers many different generators, signatures, posters, calligraphy, and logos. The target audience is somewhat blurred.

How clear and logical is the pricing of plans and packages?

This was already addressed in a previous question. Everything is clear. At this stage—searching for a cash cow—it's transparent and sufficient.

How clear is the product’s value and what problem it solves?

The value of the product, in my opinion, is not confirmed. The quality of generated images, logos, and signatures is insufficient for commercial use, in my view. More work needs to be done with prompts and providing more detailed and sophisticated materials on output. I get the sense that modern image generation models will be more effective.

Rate UX quality / ease of the main flow.

Testing was conducted on a mobile device; overall, it feels like an MVP interface that deserves some work, but it behaves predictably and allows you to work with the service.

How stable and predictable was the product during the test?

No errors occurred, everything worked, images generate quickly enough and without extra effort.

Is there a noticeable difference from typical alternatives / competitors?

No. I get the sense that the same thing can be obtained from native models.

What first impression did the product leave after a short look?

Six-seven.

How likely are you to recommend this product to its target audience?

Not ready to recommend for commercial use. For familiarization and expanding awareness that such projects exist.

Rate market readiness (can it meet the need without workarounds).

The project is searching for its future. I wish inspiration and success to the founders.
